SCOOTER SCHOOL | |
Bike/ATV Categories |
The following category is covered:
Scooter versus motorcycle |
1. Mounting a scooter you would use the step through method compared to the step over method on a motorcycle. 2. Most scooters are automatic which takes away the need to change gears, this is great as you don’t need to teach people how to use a clutch and change gears but the danger to this is that the scooter accelerates to its top speed without the need to change gears. 3. Cornering/leaning on a scooter is done with the upper body rather than the whole body and lower body for other motorcycles. 4. Scooters generally have smaller wheels and are more susceptible to irregularities or perforations to road surface. 5. With smaller wheels there is less need to counter steer on a scooter. 6. With smaller wheels there is less wheel surface contact with the road. 7. With smaller wheels there is less gyroscopic effect, making small wheel scooters less stable at high speed. 8. There are limited braking capabilities on smaller scooters. 9. There are limited suspension capabilities on smaller scooters. |
General information |
1. Scooters travel less kilometers per year but travel more frequently. 2. Scooter accidents take place at lower speeds. 3. Accidents on scooters mostly take place in the week and at lower speeds. 4. Accidents are just as severe if not worse as scooter riders don’t always wear the correct apparel. |
